YOGA CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

 Ashtanga Yoga

Ashtanga Primary Series is a very dynamic and athletic form of hatha yoga, offered with a fixed order of postures. It is rooted in vinyasa, the flowing movements between postures, and a consistent focus on energy and breath. While it is a very physical practice, it also promotes mental clarity and inner peace.

Chakra Yin

Yin yoga is a deep practice of quiet transformation with meditative elements in each pose. It inspires change in dense tissue like fascia, tendons and ligaments by affecting the meridians or energy channels within the body and encourages a greater connection to the Self. Acknowledgement and activation of the chakras (energy centres) is explored through select poses that access these areas and are supported by sound, imagery, and breathing techniques.

Hatha Therapeutics

A breath centered practice with focus on bringing stability and sweetness at all levels.

Each class begins with clear intention and focus, contains calibrated breathing practices, short therapeutic moving sequences along with long held active and restorative postures, visualizations, incantation and finishes with short guided meditation. The class will vary according to changing season and honours the individual needs and constitution, please speak to the instructor before or after the class for personal recommendations.

Hatha Yoga

In this slower paced class, postures are practiced to align, strengthen and promote flexibility in the body. Breathing techniques will help you to quiet the mind and meditation is integrated. There will be an emphasis on simplicity, and ease of movement. Full-body relaxation and balance are the goals, as we explore the body’s range of motion with standing postures, twists, inversions, backbends, forward folds, and hip openers. Move toward attaining increased balance and an enhanced connection to your highest self. Each class provides modifications and emphasizes integrating mind, body, energy, all within a playful, supportive environment.

All levels of practice are welcome.

Connect with your breath and learn to trust your inner voice, while building community with other expectant mothers.

Restorative HypnoZen Yoga™

Restorative HypnoZen Yoga™ will help you feel rested, confident, uplifted and powerful. The beautiful combination of hypnosis and restorative yoga trains the brain to go into the deeply healing state of theta, where the mind and body meet; the Zen space of true coherence and healing. Hypnosis heals on a profoundly deep level.

Restorative yoga is a form of yoga that seeks to achieve physical, mental and emotional relaxation with the aid of props; blankets, bolsters and zafus. Poses are held for longer time frames and the props help to fully support your body, allowing it to open slowly and naturally with minimum effort, allowing for a deep introspective class which restores energy to the body.

Restorative yoga is beneficial when you need to eliminate fatigue and stress that result from your daily activities. It can also help you recover from illness and injury or overcome emotional depression and anxiety.

 Vinyasa

Vinyasa  (translates to “flowing with breath”) is a dynamic style of Hatha yoga which joins physical postures, (asanas), synchronized with inhales and exhales, creating a steady internal rhythm for the practice. This flowing class is designed to cultivate heat in the body with creative sequences involving sun salutations, standing and seated postures, back bending, arm balancing, and a strong focus on the power of breath awareness. Vinyasa yoga classes tend to be more vigorous and have a variety of themes.

Yin

Yin Yoga is a slow, deep practice that increases your flexibility by stretching and stimulating the connective tissues of the hips, pelvis and lower spine. Postures are held for up to a few minutes to encourage a deepening of awareness and sensation in the body.

Yoga for Mobility

The focus of this therapeutic class is to create strength and mobility in every major synovial joint in the body, which will help improve balance, strength and stability while increasing overall flexibility and energy flow.

This methodical, asana (posture) -based movement practice moving from head to toe, is accessible to all levels of ability and is a beneficial addition for beginner to advanced yoga practitioners alike. It allows you to address and release the resistance spots in your range of motion.

The foundation of this class is based on “Pawanmuktanasana”.
Pawanmuktasana is composed of three Sanskrit words:

  • pawan meaning 'wind' or 'air' in Ayurvedic terms 'vata' or 'vayu',

  • mukta meaning 'liberation' or 'freedom',

  • asana meaning 'posture’
