My Yoga Journey Begins
Cynthia began practising yoga in 1985 in a clear-cut. To support her education and her love of nature, she planted trees each summer. She attended Queen’s University and the University of British Columbia and graduated with a B.A. in Theatre Arts.
She received her first Yoga Teacher Training Certificate at Yoga Works in Los Angeles in 1997. That same year, Cynthia began teaching yoga in the greater Toronto area in public schools, hospitals, and private and public gyms. She also led yoga retreats in Toronto and Northern Ontario.
On Nov 8, 1999 Cynthia opened The Yoga Sanctuary at 2 College Street in Toronto. TORONTO LIFE Magazine voted The Yoga Sanctuary “The Best Yoga Studio in Toronto” and the "most beautiful place to perfect a sun salutation."
In 2000, Cynthia studied in New York City and Boulder, Colorado with Ashtanga guru, Sri K. Pattabhi Jois. That same year she completed an Ashtanga Teacher Training with David Swenson and studied extensively with Toronto teacher Esther Myers.
Yoga Teacher Training
Cynthia Funk created the 250 Hour Evolving Spirit Teacher Training Program and the 300 Hour Refining Your Guidance Teacher Training Program in 2001.
In 2008, The Yoga Sanctuary registered as a Certified Private Educational Institute with the Federal government. In 2020 the name of the institution changed to the Yoga Sanctuary Academy. However, the fully accredited registered status has remained continuous .
An experienced teacher, Cynthia is available for private and corporate yoga classes.
My Journey Continues
In 2015, Cynthia became a Master Hypnotherapist and a Master Practitioner of Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP). Since then, as a life and business coach, she has helped clients of all ages - children, teens, adults, and seniors. She has coached many elite athletes to achieve a consistent top performance using mindset mastery techniques.
Cynthia is skilled in addressing issues of weight loss, insomnia, anxiety, addictions, clearing blockages, smoking cessation, and relationship issues. She also has a proven track record of working with children and adults with ADD and ADHD.
